This article contains step-by-step instructions on how to apply for the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authorization (NZeTA).

What you need
All U.S. and Canadian passport holders must obtain an ETA if:
- You are entering New Zealand
- You have a layover at an airport in New Zealand
You will need your hotel information to apply. This can be found in your online account under your Tours>Hotels.
When to apply
You can begin applying for your ETA once your hotel details have been released, around 30 days prior to departure. Processing typically takes around 2-3 business days, but we recommend applying no later than 2 weeks prior to departure to allow time for processing.

While our team is dedicated to keeping visa information up to date, please be aware that consulate applications are subject to change. As a result, your application may differ slightly from this guide. In such cases, use this guide as a reference, but follow your application’s instructions.

U.S. and Canadian passport holders can apply by visiting https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nz/ and scrolling to the bottom of the page to start the application online.
Please note: You can also download the NZeTA mobile app and complete the process from there.
Once you've accessed the website or downloaded the mobile app, you can begin by filling out your traveler details.
Once you've completed the traveler details, you'll be prompted with the following questions.
Next, follow the photo guidelines listed on this page and then upload your saved photo. Please make sure your photo file is a JPG or JPEG and doesn't exceed the file size limit.
If your photo doesn't meet these guidelines, you'll receive the following error message. If this happens, please check your photo file type and size. You may also need to retake your photo if it doesn't match the accepted examples listed above.
You'll see this message if your photo meets all the guidelines and requirements.
Be sure to review all your information before submitting. You should double check to make sure everything listed is accurate and correct.
After reviewing your application for accuracy, you'll need to accept the Terms & Conditions and Declaration. Then, select "CONFIRM."
You should then see a payment overview. Next, select the “PAY AND SUBMIT" button.
You'll be brought to a secure page to enter your card details. Please note that your bankcard will automatically convert NZD currency to USD.
Your application will take around 48 to 72 hours to process, and once approved, you'll receive an email. If you don't see an email, make sure to check your spam or junk folder.
Please make sure to have a digital and printed copy of your approved NZeTA with you when you go through customs.
